About Leon Irons
Leon Irons embarked on a journey in the Navy aboard the “USS Independence” right after graduating from high school. After his years in the service, he owned and operated multiple Sonic Drive-Ins around the Columbia area and across the southeast. Leon and his wife, Barbara, eventually made Columbia and the WildeWood Community their home in the late 80’s. They played an active role in the founding of the Member’s Club at WildeWood and still own a home overlooking the green on Hole 17.
After Leon’s passing in 2009, the Big Red Barn Retreat was created to help veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders as a tribute to his legacy. Founded by his wife and daughter, the retreat stands as a poignant homage, dedicated to supporting military personnel in leading fulfilling lives. The Annual Leon Irons Memorial Golf Tournament serves as a testament to Leon’s enduring legacy and his unwavering mission to aid our nation’s heroes as they transition from their service roles. The Big Red Barn Retreat is committed to ensuring they receive the training they need to become the best version of themselves.
