Director of Development

The Director of Development will lead and coordinate all efforts to raise funds through a combination of grants, sponsorships, events, direct mail, and individual donations and will work with the Executive Director, Staff, Board Members and Community volunteers to identify opportunities for support. The Director of Development is fully responsible for developing and implementing a fundraising plan that will be utilized by development staff and board to successfully achieve annual fundraising goals.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Strategizes and executes an annual fundraising plan that includes prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship through major gift individual giving, involvement with fundraising efforts through annual giving and special event programs.
  • Manages major gift individual giving and support annual giving and special event fundraising efforts.
  • Monitors the progress of annual on-going fundraising activities and track performance toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks as established in the development plan.
  • Secures income through investments and donations.
  • Forms strategic partnerships with contributors, solicits sponsorships, and manages and strengthens relationships with corporate investors to increase corporate giving.
  • Researches donor interests and trends in fundraising and identifies new prospective investors.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive grant strategy aligned with BRBR’s mission, goals, and funding needs.
  • Identifies funding priorities and match them with potential grant opportunities.
  • Conducts thorough research to identify prospective grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
  • Analyzes grant guidelines and assess the feasibility of applying for specific grants.
  • Oversees the development and writing of compelling grant proposals, including crafting narratives, creating budgets, and compiling supporting documentation.
  • Collaborates with program staff to gather necessary information and data to support grant proposals.
  • Ensures that all proposals meet the specific requirements, guidelines, and deadlines of each grantor.
  • Manages post-award grant activities, including tracking grant deliverables, outcomes, and expenditures.
  • Develops and directs corporate giving programs and donor engagement opportunities that grow financial support for the Big Red Barn Retreat.
  • Creates donor engagement opportunities to increase financial support for Big Red Barn Retreat.
  • Provides strategic direction for each signature event and help lead team with plan to achieve event goals.
  • Ensures timely mailing of acknowledgements, invoices and other correspondence as needed.
  • Ensures accurate and timely recording of contributions, the issuing of receipts and thank you letters.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of the gift entry process and work to enhance the use of donor records and reports for Development as needed.
  • Reconciliations of expenses and cash flow.
  • Oversees ongoing maintenance of donor files.
  • Partners with design and marketing teams to create and distribute fundraising communications including social media posts, brochures, and press releases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and sustained performance.

Marketing and Communications Director

The Marketing & Communications Director manages Big Red Barn Retreat’s communications and marketing division and develops and maintains internal and external communications and marketing strategies to ensure a consistent message is being disseminated. Develops and implements an effective communication strategy to inform donors, volunteers, participants, stakeholders, and the general public about the Big Red Barn’s programs, services, and events. This position is responsible for the organization’s website; manages social media accounts and messages; writes press releases, newsletters, and public information updates; and liaises with media to help the organization broadcast its message.  Plan, supervise and approve all design, content and production of marketing materials for the organization. Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff within the area of marketing, communications, and events. This position will manage the Special Events Coordinator.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manages, develops, and implements Marketing and Communications strategy and programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products; and supports the coordination of public relations to ensure the organization’s reputation is upheld.
  • Oversees and coordinates the work of the creative staff, communications and marketing vendors, and Special Events Coordinator.
  • Works with and consults with internal departments to include Director of Development, Program Director, & Executive Director to develop content that promotes the appropriate message, and ensures its accuracy.
  • Create and manage a consistent brand image across all marketing materials and channels.
  • Design and execute marketing campaigns to promote programs, services, and events.
  • Manages the production of a full range of communications products to include videos and publications, from draft or storyboard creation through the final product, to support the goals of the organization.
  • Coordinates and manages the development and production of print and digital marketing and communication materials, which may include press releases, proposals, presentation materials, information brochures, internal and external correspondence, reports, speeches, policies, procedures, solicitation, and marketing materials.
  • Serves as the primary media contact and spokesperson for the organization. Schedules and plans interviews with participants and media, plus coordinate press conferences
  • Writes, prepares, edits, and/or reviews communication documents and materials for interacting with employees, media and varied key audiences pertinent to news and issues management; and oversees publications. Assists upper management with the development of communications policies and the management of public relations issues.
  • Manages the organization’s website, ensuring it is up-to-date, user-friendly, and reflective of the brand.
  • Oversees email marketing campaigns and manages the organization’s email database.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of oral and written communications and interpersonal relations skills in order to determine the most effective communication methods and materials, to persuade organization management and/or personnel to accept suggestions and proposals, and to foster effective relationships among all parts of the organization.
  • Assists upper management with the development of communications policies and the management of public relations issues.
  • Develops and executes social media strategies to increase engagement and grow the organization’s online presence.
  • Monitors and analyze social media performance, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Works with Special Events Coordinator to plan and execute fundraising events, community outreach activities, and other special events.
  • Ensures events align with the organization’s mission and marketing goals.
  • Oversees event marketing and promotion to maximize attendance and donor engagement. Collaborate with the Director of development.
  • Assists in developing fundraising strategies and campaigns.
  • Creates compelling stories and messages to support donor appeals and grant applications.
  • Tracks and analyzes the effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts. Determine ROI on marketing campaigns.
  • Prepares regular reports on marketing activities, engagement metrics, and campaign performance for the Executive Director and board.
  • Gathers participant and consumer feedback to inform the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and sustained performance.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and deadlines.
