National PTG Day

Why We Focus On Posttraumatic Growth

June is National PTSD Awareness Month, a time dedicated to understanding the impacts of trauma and adversity. At the Big Red Barn Retreat, we recognize the importance of those conversations, but on National Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) Day, we focus on growth.

Posttraumatic Growth is the positive psychological change that can occur following trauma or challenging life experiences. It does not erase hardship or minimize struggle. Instead, it highlights the potential for individuals to experience meaningful growth as they move forward.

PTG can look different for everyone, but it often includes:

Five black-and-white photos depict personal growth themes: strength, relationships, appreciation, possibilities, and change.

For active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders, growth often begins when they realize they are not alone.

That’s why connection is such an important part of the work we do. Through our no-cost programs and services, we help create opportunities for our nation’s heroes to connect, learn, and grow alongside others who understand their experiences.

This PTG Day, we invite you to remember a simple but powerful message:

Struggle is part of the story. Growth can be too.

Because every hero deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for helping our heroes at the Big Red Barn Retreat.
